Welcome to Teaching Matters!  Through this program you will learn about our systems and consulting practices.

Teaching Matters' theory of action for how to sustainably and significantly improve teacher practice and student outcomes in schools.  We call this theory of action Teaching for Impact.  Teaching for Impact asserts that three critical areas need to be developed in order to improve teacher practice and student outcomes in a sustainable way--and that the combination of the three maximizes impact.  These three critical areas are:

  • Building Instructional Foundations (establishing common assessments, common curriculum, and effective pedagogy/content knowledge)

  • Collaborating for Outcomes (establishing data-driven PLCs for continuous improvement)

  • Leading for Impact (coaching Learning Team Leaders to lead their peers in school improvement)

 
Assessment Matters redefines assessment methods school-wide by helping students, teachers and principals make data-informed decisions to ensure all students progress towards mastery.

The Emerging Teacher Leaders program is a partnership between Teaching Matters and the New York City Department of Education whose goal is to support teachers who show potential to apply for and be accepted into Teacher Leader positions. The program focuses on 4 key areas of learning:

  1. Strategizing for Assessment
  2. Analyzing Student Work
  3. Planning Professional Learning

Writing Matters is an interactive writing curriculum for middle school.  The program contains 7 units - each focusing on a genre of writing.  

Early Reading Matters develops expertise critical to improving literacy in Kindergarten through Second grade.
 

A pathway program for NYC teachers to become Teacher Leaders.  

 
 
The Early Reading Matters Blended Program is a pilot program exploring onsite, online and virtual supports for teachers participating in Early Reading Matters.

Welcome to Early Reading Matters!  

Bringing students together through texts written by authors of color to elevate the lived experiences of children of color.

Elevating Voices is a national program designed to “elevate” the voices of historically marginalized people to make their experiences visible and their voices heard.

This year, the program will focus on three culturally relevant books and provide teacher and student-facing content designed to support blended learning.  Students learning remotely will have immediate learning experiences over the course of 6-7 weeks, while teachers develop competencies in crafting culturally responsive literacy instruction that builds on anti-racist practices.
